Stephen E. Smith, Lead Pastor

Steve Smith grew up in Gainesville, Florida, and has lived in North Carolina for the last twenty-six years. He earned his undergraduate degree at Auburn University in Economics, and his Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary, in Kentucky.  Steve served as the youth pastor at Jarvis Memorial UMC for fourteen years, and will always have a heart for young people.  He developed his passion for missions working with teenagers.  As the Lord redirected Steve’s call, his ministry took a different turn.  He was appointed as the senior pastor at Bethel UMC, where he served for seven years.  His next appointment was at Salem UMC, where he served for five years.  Steve was appointed to Trinity UMC in Jacksonville at the end of June 2016.  Steve loves to introduce people to Jesus and then help them grow in their knowledge and love of Christ.  He is committed to missions that reach out locally and beyond.  Having grown up in Florida, Steve loves to body surf and is an avid swimmer.

Anne Walker Sims, Associate Pastor

Anne is a Virginia native who was raised in Virginia Beach and feels most at home near the coast.  She graduated from William and Mary with a BS in Environmental Science and Spanish, dreaming then of a career in Marine Biology and avoiding a call to ministry.  After several years, she surrendered to God's call on her life to become an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and enrolled at Duke Divinity School.  While there, she became a student pastor and married Ben Sims, an Alabama native and United Methodist elder currently on leave.  Ben and Anne graduated in 2001 with their Masters of Divinity and a fierce loyalty to the Blue Devils.  Anne has served United Methodist churches in the North Carolina conference ever since.  She believes that following the Great Commandments to love God with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving her neighbor as herself are the highest calling she can fulfill.  She loves reading, crafting, and a short-lived TV show called Firefly, and she dreams of writing books and teaching workshops that help people feel more connected to Jesus and one another.  She completed a Doctor of Ministry in 2010 at Drew University.  Ben and Anne share two dogs: Bama Spirit, the incarnation of love and joy and energy, and Rosie, who is the personification of peace and will hopefully become a therapy dog.

Jane Blackmore, Preschool Director

Jane Blackmore is the director/teacher of Trinity Preschool.  She has been an educator for over 30 years and has served in this capacity at Trinity for over 20 years.  Jane feels that the most important aspect of Trinity Preschool, as a ministry of Trinity United Methodist Church, is that young children are provided a quality early childhood education in an unapologetically Christian setting.
