Contemporary Worship Leader 

The Contemporary Worship Leader at Trinity United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, NC will provide vocal and musical leadership to the Sunday morning contemporary worship service (8:45 a.m.).  This position will be responsible for the planning, preparation, and coordination of all aspects of music for the contemporary worship service.

  • Strong lead singing voice, with a good understanding of and ability to lead contemporary Christian music
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to engage the congregation in worship
  • Ability to play keyboard, guitar, or percussion is preferred
  • Skilled in organization, administration, and interpersonal relationships
  • Competent in Pro Presenter

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Selecting songs for Sunday morning contemporary worship services, coordinating with the pastor as necessary and communicating to the church office.
  • Preparing Pro Presenter slides for all songs.
  • Directing the praise band, including leading the group through all songs during worship service, conducting rehearsals, and coordinating musicians and singers for each week. 
  • Recruiting new musicians and singers into the praise band as needed
  • Leading the congregation verbally (including greetings, prayers, transitions, and singing) to help people praise and connect with God through worship
  • Assisting in the set-up and tear-down of sound equipment before and after rehearsals and Sunday morning service
  • Preparing sheet music in advance of rehearsals, keeping music organized, and continually seeking out new songs for the service
  • Arranging for a qualified alternative leader when away

This is a part-time, year-round position, 10 hours/week.  A successful background check will be required as a condition of employment.

Trinity Preschool Teacher

Trinity United Methodist Preschool is a ministry of Trinity United Methodist Church.  The Pre-K teacher is responsible for providing safe and developmentally appropriate activities for a group of children 3-4 years old. The teacher creates a classroom environment that addresses the developmental needs of the whole child, fosters children's natural curiosity, prepares them for Kindergarten, and helps them grow into the initial steps of Christian Discipleship.

Essential Functions:
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual needs of the children in the program
  • Work with children individually and in large groups to foster learning
  • Post weekly lesson plans
  • Prepare a monthly newsletter
  • Understand and adhere to all health and safety requirements of Safe Sanctuary policies and TUMC
  • Establish a positive relationship with children, families, co-workers, and church staff at TUMC
  • Observe and document children's growth and development
  • Communicates developmental/behavioral concerns to parents
  • Create a portfolio for each child
  • Complete progress reports for each child

Audio Visual Technician

Operates and provide basic maintenance of live audio and recording system(s) in the church.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Operate audio console for 2-3 weekly Sunday church services: 8:45am and 11:00am. Ensure that audio is at acceptable levels and mix for four main participant categories (congregation, musicians/speakers, livestream, and individuals utilizing assistive listening).
  • Operate PowerPoint-based presentations during sermons at 2-3 weekly Sunday church services: 8:45am, and 11:00am.
  • Capture live audio and video from sermons using flash-memory audio recorder. Edit tracks using audio/video editing software. Post finished product to church website for download/podcast.
  • Communicate with church staff about Audio/Visual repair, replacement, and upgrade needs.
  • Perform routine & preventative maintenance on audio and other A/V equipment. Including, but not limited to, microphone transmitters/receivers, mixer, amplifiers, speakers, cabling, projector, livestreaming equipment, etc.
  • Operate livestream, special videos, slide shows, etc. as requested by the church staff.
  • Offer consultation to church staff on Audio/Visual needs for special events, projects, etc.
  • Setup and operate portable sound system for special functions.
  • Operate audio system for weddings and funerals.
  • Attend planning meetings, rehearsals, and special events as requested.

  • Ability to analyze audio output using hearing and technology-based spectrum analysis to adjust equalization and create the most ideal balance possible in a given space.

Childcare Attendant

Realizing that the church nursery is the point of introduction for most children into the church family, it is our responsibility to make it a safe and pleasant environment. We want to make the most of every opportunity to share with children that God loves them.  Whether rocking, feeding, reading, or playing with the children, we see these as opportunities to tell them that God loves them.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment for all children who are registered for childcare during specified programs and events at TUMC.
  • Must give a minimum notice of two (2) hours to the Nursery Supervisor if unable to work when scheduled.
  • Attendants must remain until all responsibilities are fulfilled or unless prior arrangements have been made with the Nursery Supervisor
  • To review and carry out all safety policies and procedures.
  • To educate any volunteers in safety policies and procedures.
  • To properly clean and sanitize space after each use.
  • To report problems or concerns to the Nursery Supervisor.
  • To complete incident reports when necessary, informing parents and submitting documentation to the Nursery Supervisor.
  • To assist the Nursery Supervisor in welcoming new families and keeping accurate records. Every Sunday, pass any visitor information on to the Children’s Minister.
  • To attend required periodic training as directed.

  • Must have a heart for children and model Christ-like behavior.
  • Must be an active participant in the life and ministry of the local Christian church, including worship, Bible-based studies, or other spiritual growth opportunities.
  • Must keep CPR and First Aid certifications up-to-date.
  • Must complete and submit a request to perform a Criminal Background check to the Nursery Supervisor. Attendant must be cleared prior to employment.
  • Must attend Safe Sanctuary training.
  • Must arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the scheduled event. Punctuality is imperative! Repetitive tardiness cannot be tolerated.
